I stared at my pantry for about 5 minutes last night feeling hangry and my brain racing. My original thought was "This is a challenge- like an episode of Chopped. You have cans of garbanzos, kidneys, blacks, navys and pork n... (just kidding, no self-respecting dietitian has Pork n beans in her pantry) and pintos.... You can add a few other on-hand items and make a meal that's blog worthy!" Hah.. that so did NOT happen.
I just didn't have it in me. Better yet, I didn't want 17 different kinds of beans in me. Here's your total transparency... I actually mumbled "But I don't wanna toot that much".
So what's the lesson here?
1.) Plan ahead- don't leave your meals to chance.
2.) If you truly truly don't want to eat something, don't do it. Honor your desires, in moderation. If you deprive yourself and opt for beans when you want pizza, you'll probably end up eating beans AND pizza.
3.) Don't have 19 cans of beans in your pantry- that's just not fair to any house guest.
I'll be visiting my local food bank soon.
4.) Brace yourself for slow-cookers, smoothies and baked goods featuring beans in the near future! J/K ;).
5.) Beans, beans, good for the heart and the more you eat them you want something else for dinner.
Life is short, folks. Food is love. And although I'm a huge advocate for #moremealsathome and an active kitchen, sometimes you just gotta KISS it and order a pizza.
