Food Pet Peeve, noun
a component or characteristic of food that immediately evokes negative emotion, often leading to unattractive facial expressions and noises reflecting annoyance.
2. Gristle. It always surprises me how many people look at me like I’m from another planet when I say the word gristle, but it’s a thing. It’s in Wikipedia and everything- that chewy, inedible part of meat that causes you to chew all around the bite until you ultimately reach for the napkin. #guilty
3. Lettuce backbone. You know- that wretched inside piece that anchors the beautiful leafy parts of the lettuce to the undesirable spine. When those little pointless pieces begin to take over my salad… gah! Come on folks, I didn’t order a wedge.
4. Buns of steel. Cold hard hamburger buns. You can have the most glorious juicy piece of beef with fresh colorful veggies, but put that between two chilly bricks of bread and it’s totally ruined. On the flip side, when it happens, I just tell myself it’s a sign my meal should have less refined carbs.
5. Fishy fish. If you’re a fishy fish hater also, you probably were hoping this would make the list. Yes, I know that fish should smell like fish- just like every other protein should smell like its respective animal/plant, BUT there’s just something about fishy fish that is over the top icky. And since we’re on the topic of fish, I will forever be convinced that catfish tastes like dirt.
Alright, I feel better. Now lemme hear your food frustrations!
